I lived/acted like Thomas Shelby for a day in Pakistan
Tom Shelby as we know him, is one of the most calm and sophisticated character ever. I took a challenge to act like Shelby and see what reactions I will get. To be honest, it is not very easy to be calm all the time but I had to take a challenge.
The biggest challenge for me was to be calm and relaxed, which in real world is not easy thing to do.
Second, I am not a handsome gentleman with a built up body but a thin weird college student. But I think, I will adapt some of his habits as they actually made me feel good.
Rules
Morning
As soon as I left my bed and got dressed up, as I had no idea what Thomas would wear in the hottest summer of the century.
I left for college on my motorcycle and reached in about half an hour. The cruelty of the sun had already exhausted me but I just calmed down. I dragged myself into the class and sat there at the first row.
Struggle with being calm
As the day passed, being in the character also became hard. Trust me, if Thomas himself lived here, he might would have had been a different person. The day could not have been more hotter and I had pretty much nothing to do. Bored and alone, I wanted to quit the challenge but I kept going till night.
Breaking a rule
I could not use a phone as Thomas didn't use phones, so, I just to observe others around me. It became even worse when there was no one around me and I was bored as hell. I decided to use my phone and listen some songs on Youtube. I had no choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Struggle with style
I tried to get my look as much like Shelby as possible but I looked like I am Tom Shelby when he gets lost in the woods and didn't find any food for days(Bear Grylls)............ There was absolutely nothing I could do about the style.
Struggles with observation and ADHD
Just imagine, a Tom Shelby with ADHD. That is exactly how I felt like.. If someone asked a question, I felt lost in the hay like a needle. Could not really observe others as my mind kept wondering around. But the rule was to stay as calm as possible, so I did.
Summary
This experience was even better than when I did Socrates. Mornings are the hardest part of the day.
Tom listens everyone, his friends, family and even enemies and this habit, somehow, makes him an authority. Tom teaches us a lot of things and being calm is one of them. One does not always have to respond to everything. Breaking rules is fine as long as they are not hurting anyone, or yourself. Like me, if you are an ADHD or have deslexia, "Think before you speak" rule is the worst.
